UOB Thailand ushers in new CEO

Richard Maloney will begin his role on 1 July.

UOB Thailand has named Richard Maloney as its new chief executive officer (CEO), starting 1 July, and has succeeded Tan Choon Hin, who has led since 2016. 

Tan will return to Singapore to serve as deputy head of Group Governance, Risk, and Compliance. Vira-Anong C Phutrakul will be appointed head of Wholesale Banking and Deputy CEO of UOB Thailand.

Maloney, with 40 years of banking experience in Wholesale Banking, Capital Markets, and Retail Banking, has been UOB’s COO for Group Wholesale Banking since 2014. 

Before joining UOB, he was COO for ASEAN at a global bank, and he has worked in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

In his role as COO, Maloney drove business growth and led initiatives in infrastructure and product development, client services, anti-financial crime operations, and data monetisation. 

As CEO, he will focus on enhancing UOB Thailand's digital capabilities, expanding product offerings, and connecting clients to regional market opportunities.
