Maybank eyes more media exposure in China
Maybank has entered into a strategic partnership with Xinhua News Agency.
Maybank president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, who represented Malaysia's largest
commercial bank, said this milestone strategic media and financial partnership would provide an opening for Maybank to have greater exposure and news coverage in China.
He said Xinhua would also benefit from this partnership by having access to information on the Malaysian and Asean
financial sector from Maybank's established presence, reach and experience in the Malaysian and Asean markets.
"China is the third largest Asean trading partner, within which, Malaysia is the largest, with bilateral trade worth US$74 billion.
"This agreement can potentially open up a marketplace of up to two billion people in the combined region.
"This is especially so in the light of China now having achieved the status of the second largest economy in the world," he said in a statement.
Xinhua vice-president Lu Wei inked on behalf of the news agency. With the acquisition of Singapore's Kim Eng
Holdings, a leading investment bank and stock broking entity last month, Maybank is now a step closer to become a
regional financial services leader by 2015.
